Coming in the next update: Atlas K-12 teacher access setting, student Supports panel, and SIS sync fixes
2026-10-03
ANNOUNCEMENT
Atlas K-12
These changes are built and tested and will ship to districts in the next Atlas K-12 update. They are not released yet.
What's new
- Atlas K-12Teacher access setting. District administrators can choose which students teachers see: every student at their school (the default, unchanged), only students in their own classes, or their own classes plus students whose care team they are on. One setting covers every page, list, export and Compass.
- Atlas K-12Top bar on every page. Student search, Ask Compass, and the "Student in danger right now?" button are always one click away.
- Atlas K-12Supports panel on the student page. Shows the student's care team, running intervention plans with tier and status, and counts of referrals, support notes, behavior incidents and open follow-up actions.
- Atlas K-12Attendance by week and SEL survey topics on the student page. "Attendance by week" bars show the percent of school days present each week, with the Tier 1 cut point marked. "SEL survey topics" bars show each topic's average with strengths highlighted. Both use the same rules as the tier cards, so the numbers always agree.
Improvements
- Atlas K-12New look for tables, buttons and forms across the application, in light and dark mode.
- Atlas K-12Pages fit phone screens. Wide tables scroll inside their own card.
- Atlas K-12Progress updates keep what was typed. When a progress update on an intervention plan is refused (for example, a value that is not a number), the form keeps what was typed.
- Atlas K-12Older student-page charts match the tier cards. The older attendance and SEL charts on the student page now use the same numbers as the tier cards.
Fixes
- Atlas K-12SIS syncs from PowerSchool, Aeries, Ed-Fi, Skyward, Synergy and CSV connections no longer add duplicate behavior incidents on each sync.
- Atlas K-12A Strategy Library page could show care team and student names from other schools and districts. It now shows only students the viewer is allowed to see.
- Atlas K-12The grade filter on the Dashboard and Student Roster lists only grades of students the viewer can see.
- Atlas K-12In dark mode, colored buttons showed as plain grey; they keep their colors now. In light mode, hovering a colored button no longer makes its text unreadable.
Atlas K-12 demo video now available
2026-10-01
ANNOUNCEMENT
Atlas K-12
The Atlas K-12 product demo is now available to watch: a 28 minute question-and-answer walkthrough of what Atlas K-12 does today, with captions on screen and chapters for each part of the product. The final section covers planned features and is labeled as planned. All students shown are fictional demo data. Watch the Atlas K-12 demo.
Coming soon: our own K-12 model for Compass
2026-09-28
ANNOUNCEMENT
Atlas K-12
We're training an AI model of our own, built specifically for K-12 education, to power the next version of Compass in Atlas K-12. It recommends from Atlas K-12's curated strategy and technique library and your district's own strategies, cites research your team can check, says when it doesn't know, and runs locally with no cloud AI calls. It will ship only after testing against today's Compass model and review by educators.

- SharedEnrolled in Anthropic's Cyber Verification Program. Our development organization is verified under Anthropic's program for defensive cybersecurity work, active as of September 27, 2026. It lets our team use Claude, including Anthropic's Fable model, for deeper AI-assisted security testing of AtlasOA and Atlas K-12 on our own isolated test systems with synthetic data. Testing is under way, and a summary of results will be published in the Trust Center.
- SharedThis is AI-assisted internal testing. It is not a third-party penetration test or a certification, and Anthropic does not endorse or certify AtlasOA or Atlas K-12.
v0.9.13 (Atlas K-12 Whole Child Update)
2026-09-26
MINOR
Atlas K-12
Atlas K-12 now supports the whole child, not only the four data-fed MTSS areas. This release adds three new pillars, puts district settings in charge of tier calculations, adds several screens schools asked for, and makes Compass safer and more useful.
Whole child support
- Atlas K-12Seven pillars instead of four. Academics, Attendance, Behavior and SEL & Wellbeing are joined by Health & Basic Needs, Family & Community, and Future Readiness. Student support teams set the three new pillars with Record Tier Change and a reason. Existing data carries over automatically.
- Atlas K-12Whole Child card on every student profile, with prompts for students experiencing homelessness, in foster care, from migrant families, or from military-connected families.
- Atlas K-12Reports by student circumstance. Reports can be broken down by homeless, foster care, migrant and military-connected status.
- Atlas K-12Roster and Smart Group filters for any pillar's tier and for student circumstance.
- Atlas K-1220 new research-backed strategies for the new pillars and common gaps, including McKinney-Vento liaison support, weekend food backpacks, nurse check-ins, Academic Parent-Teacher Teams, family goal-setting conferences, a community referral map, Freshman On-Track, Check & Connect, college and career plan conferences, FAFSA support, standards-based grading, formative assessment, reassessment, student self-assessment, EL academic vocabulary, SIOP, worked examples for algebra, secondary writing, and dialogic reading.
- Atlas K-12The full technique catalog (788 techniques) now loads, including family engagement and MTSS system techniques.
Tiers follow your district's settings
- Atlas K-12Administration > Thresholds now drives tier calculations and labels for attendance, behavior, academics and SEL.
- Atlas K-12Behavior counts only incidents within the current school year, based on the school calendar.
- Atlas K-12Academics from your SIS. Grades create their class sections and enrollments automatically, CSV grade and enrollment imports are supported, and re-importing updates existing records instead of duplicating them.
- Atlas K-12Report Card Scale setting. Under Administration > Thresholds, set how your schools grade for grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12: Letter A-F, Letter A-E, Standards E/S/N/U, Standards 1-4, or Percent. The Academics tier then reads every mark on that scale. Until a level is set, Atlas K-12 detects the scale automatically and shows a reminder.
- Atlas K-12Chronic absenteeism matches the Attendance tier. The chronic absenteeism list now uses your district's attendance thresholds and counts only school days that have already happened.
Compass
- Atlas K-12"Student in danger right now?" button. An always-visible button on every page with Compass opens clear next steps immediately: call 911 if anyone is in immediate danger, stay with the student, bring in your counselor or administrator, call 988, and make mandated reports. It includes steps for self-harm, abuse or neglect, threats of violence, and medical emergencies.
- Atlas K-12Crisis response first. When a staff member describes a student who may hurt themselves, is being hurt, is threatening someone, or is having a medical emergency, Compass immediately shows fixed, reviewed next steps: get your counselor or administrator, follow your district protocol, call 911 in an emergency, 988 for suicide and crisis support, and mandated reporting. Planning questions, such as a re-entry plan, still get full MTSS guidance with a safety reminder.
- Atlas K-12Student-aware answers. On a student's page, Compass considers that student's tiers, active plans, recent progress and circumstances (only for staff with permission to view the student). Student names are never sent to the AI model, and answers about a specific student are never reused for anyone else.
- Atlas K-12Your district's strategies come first, followed by approved techniques and the shared library, filtered by grade band.
- Atlas K-12Smoother conversations. Compass no longer forces a "which area?" question, keeps chat history separate for each user, and clears it at sign-out.
New screens you asked for
- Atlas K-12District strategies. Counselors, administrators and MTSS coordinators can add, edit and archive their district's own strategies. They show a "Your district" badge and are visible only within that district.
- Atlas K-12Small-group plans. Add students to or remove them from an intervention plan, limited to students you can view.
- Atlas K-12Plan attachments. Upload and download files on a plan (PDF, Office documents, images, MP4, up to 32 MB).
- Atlas K-12Administration > Alert Settings. District administrators can turn on tier-change email alerts, choose recipients, and set the mail server. Alerts arrive as one summary email per update, and the mail password is stored encrypted.
- Atlas K-12SEL Surveys > Parent Opt-Outs. Record or remove a parent opt-out. The survey will not open for a student who has opted out.
- Atlas K-12Change Password link in the sidebar and a Technique Library button on Administration.
Fixes
- Atlas K-12Save as Smart Group now saves correctly.
- Atlas K-12Pillar Config shows all seven pillars and saves correctly in every setup.
- Atlas K-12All help articles were checked against the actual screens. 19 were rewritten and 7 were added for the new screens.
Coming later
- Atlas K-12In-app notifications (alerts are email only for now)
- Atlas K-12Care Team meeting scheduling with invitations
- Atlas K-12Attendance counseling forms
- Atlas K-12One-click PDF student progress reports (CSV exports are available today)
- Atlas K-12Welcome emails for new users
v0.9.12 (Self-Serve Trial, Activation-Based Keys, Connection Diagnostics)
2026-09-14
MINOR
AtlasOA
What's new
- AtlasOASelf-serve 30-day trial. Institutions now evaluate AtlasOA on a Windows PC, server, or virtual machine they own: one installer, one license key, and a 42-page Evaluation Guide with screenshots that walks from install to a full assessment cycle on a built-in sample program, then to their own de-identified data. No sales demo required. The guide is published in the resources library.
- AtlasOATrial keys now start their 30 days on the day they are activated, not the day they are issued, so a key that sits in an inbox for a week still delivers a full trial. Each key carries a hard activate-by date.
- AtlasOAConnection diagnostics on LMS Data Sync. Before a Jenzabar connection test touches the database it checks that the ODBC driver is installed, that the host name resolves, and that the port answers, and it explains SQL Server failures in plain language with the exact question to bring to the DBA. Every test, pass or fail, is written to a local log file that never contains the password, and to the audit trail.
- AtlasOABrowser-blocked controls fixed: buttons and drop-downs that relied on inline scripts, which AtlasOA's strict script policy blocks, now work in every browser. The policy itself stays strict: only the controls the application renders are permitted, nothing injected.
- AtlasOAInstalled copies keep their backups, connection settings, and logs in the per-user data folder rather than under Program Files, so they work without administrator rights.
- AtlasOAThe Windows Firewall option in the installer now starts unchecked, matching the guide.
Security and hardening
- AtlasOAReliability and security hardening from a separate internal review of this release: activation records are written atomically and are more resilient to disk errors; connection-test errors are classified more accurately; log entries cannot be forged by server-supplied text; secrets are scrubbed from diagnostics before anything is logged or displayed; the diagnostics panel escapes all server-supplied text.
- AtlasOA2026-09-14 release review. Before shipping the first trial package, the license activation change and the new connection diagnostics were reviewed by separate internal reviewers, each finding was challenged by two separate verifiers, and every confirmed item was fixed before release. In plain terms: activation records are more resilient to disk errors; connection-test logs and the on-screen diagnostics panel cannot be used to smuggle text or secrets; an integration credential that could have appeared in a log under one misconfiguration now cannot; and connection tests are recorded in the tamper-evident audit trail as intended. No customer data was involved at any point; all testing ran on synthetic sample data in isolated copies.
Validation
- AtlasOAVerification: over 300 automated checks across feature, trial-activation, diagnostics, and sync-simulation suites plus a real-key end-to-end run of the trial path and a crawl of this site, all green before release. Reviewed by a separate internal reviewer under the never-self-audit policy; this is not a third-party assessment.
v0.9.11 (Course Evaluations and Microsoft Entra SSO)
2026-07-30
MINOR
AtlasOA
Atlas K-12
What's new
- AtlasOACourse evaluations and surveys module. Build evaluation campaigns per term, collect anonymous student responses through single-use links, and see per-course and per-instructor results with export to DOCX and text. Responses are anonymous by design: small classes are suppressed below a five-response threshold so individuals cannot be identified.
- Atlas K-12Microsoft Entra single sign-on. Districts can let staff sign in with their existing Microsoft work accounts. Standards-based OIDC with full token signature verification; single-tenant, disabled by default, and enabled with a short set of environment variables (see the deployment guide). A "Sign in with Microsoft" button appears on the login page only when SSO is fully configured.
Security
- SharedBoth features were security-reviewed by separate internal reviewers before release, continuing the never-self-audit policy. The SSO token verification was hardened against algorithm-substitution and related attacks with a dedicated regression suite; the evaluation module's anonymity guarantees were verified against de-anonymization and small-sample attacks.
v0.9.10 (Atlas K-12 SIS Integrations and Full Catalog)
2026-07-30
MINOR
Atlas K-12
What's new
- Atlas K-12Nine new SIS integrations via the OneRoster 1.1 standard: Aspen, Focus, Genesis, eSchoolPlus, SchoolTool, Blackbaud, FACTS, Rediker, and ProgressBook, each verified against vendor and 1EdTech certification documentation.
- Atlas K-12Honest import paths for every SIS. Systems without a public API (Tyler, Ascender, Alma, JMC, and others) now get a guided CSV/SFTP file-import path, and the app never collects API credentials that could not work.
- Atlas K-12Complete technique catalog on every fresh install. New installations now seed the full research-backed intervention technique catalog across all four pillars (675 techniques), up from the original 120-technique starter set.
- Atlas K-12Clearer sync history. File-based connections report actionable guidance in the sync history instead of a generic error.
Security and hardening
- Atlas K-12Independently security-reviewed before release. Connection credential handling was hardened during review: file-based connections refuse API credentials on every route and purge stale API configuration on save.
- Atlas K-12No customer action is required after updating. Existing connections and data are preserved.
v0.9.9 (Deployment Hardening and Verification)
2026-07-30
PATCH
AtlasOA
Security and hardening
- AtlasOAReverse-proxy support. Proxied deployments can now report each visitor's real address to sign-in protection and audit logs via an explicit, off-by-default setting, with new step-by-step deployment guidance including required network lockdown.
- AtlasOAMisconfigured settings now fail safe with a clear startup warning instead of silently changing behavior.
- AtlasOAIndependently security-reviewed before release, continuing the never-self-audit policy: the reviewer is never the builder.
Validation
- AtlasOAFull verification pass: 200+ automated feature tests green, plus a sweep of every application page with zero errors.
- AtlasOANo customer action is required after updating. The new setting only applies when a deployment explicitly enables it.
v0.9.8 (Accreditation Reporting Suite)
2026-07-04
MINOR
AtlasOA
What's new
- AtlasOAClosing-the-loop narrative generator. Accreditor-ready narratives composed from your actual assessment data (never invented text) for HLC, SACSCOC, MSCHE, NWCCU, WSCUC, ACCJC, and a generic template. Exports to DOCX, HTML, and plain text.
- AtlasOAEvidence packages. Per-program self-study evidence bundles (narratives, data tables, manifest) for all six regional accreditors, exportable as ZIP.
- AtlasOASpecialized accreditor support. ABET, AACSB (Table 5-1), CAEP, ACEN, and CCNE, each built from the accreditor's own published standards.
- AtlasOAMulti-cycle trend analysis. Year-over-year outcome performance with curriculum-change annotations, plus verification reminders: you said you would re-measure this outcome; did you?
- AtlasOAEarly intervention alerting. A configurable threshold flags students while they are still in the course, with an at-risk dashboard, coach action log, and re-assessment tracking. Alert emails contain counts only, never student identifiers.
Reliability
- AtlasOAScheduled backups now start correctly under Windows-service deployments.
v0.9.7 (Try It With Your Own Data)
2026-07-03
MINOR
AtlasOA
What's new
- AtlasOAOne-click demo mode. Load a sample program straight from the sign-in page. No LMS integration and no account required. Each evaluation runs in its own isolated session and auto-expires after 7 days.
- AtlasOACSV upload. Bring your own data in the four template files, get validation with clear error messages, and see it visualized immediately. Convert to a trial without re-entering anything.
- AtlasOAUniversal competency framework system. Import or define any framework (certification bodies, industry standards, or custom), align course outcomes to competencies with introduces/develops/demonstrates strength, and see coverage reporting per program. Includes CSV import and API endpoints.
Security
- AtlasOABuilt security-first. Both features were threat-modeled and security-reviewed by separate internal reviewers before release.
v0.9.6 (Evaluation Resources)
2026-07-02
MINOR
AtlasOA
What's new
- AtlasOAThree downloadable sample datasets: an IT/cybersecurity program, an automotive program aligned to ASE, and a multi-program community college. Each includes a complete worked assessment cycle and is clearly labeled synthetic.
- AtlasOAFour CSV import templates: outcomes, assessment data, closing-the-loop records, competency frameworks.
- AtlasOAFaculty Onboarding Playbook. A 4-week rollout guide framing assessment as teaching improvement, with email templates and responses to common objections.
- AtlasOAPre-built competency framework library: 14 frameworks (CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, AWS, ASE, NIMS, OSHA, CASEL 5). Every item list verified against the official publisher source, with the verification date embedded.
- AtlasOANew website pages: a sample-data demo page and a worked case study.
v0.9.5 (Atlas K-12 Security Review Completed and Verified)
2026-06-10
PATCH
Atlas K-12
Security and privacy
- Atlas K-12Completed and re-verified the platform-wide security review. Every school-and-district boundary, integration safeguard, and data-handling protection from the prior release was re-checked against the live application and confirmed in place.
- Atlas K-12Made the unencrypted-network startup warning more reliable so operators are always alerted when the platform is reachable over plain HTTP on a local network, even when a custom address is configured. Running behind TLS (proxied mode) remains the recommendation for any non-trusted network.
Compatibility
- Atlas K-12No customer action is required after updating. Existing data and configuration are preserved.
v0.9.4 (AtlasOA Access and Sign-in Hardening)
2026-06-10
PATCH
AtlasOA
Security and hardening
- AtlasOAExtended role and permission enforcement to every management area including lab tracking, badges, certification alignment, graduate tracking, course evaluations, evidence portfolios, institutional-effectiveness dashboards, advisory boards, file attachments, and proficiency scales, so create, edit, issue, and delete actions follow each account's assigned permissions.
- AtlasOAReinforced administrator-only screens so configuration and destructive actions require an administrator account, not merely a signed-in one.
- AtlasOAImproved API access-key handling. A new key is shown once at creation and is no longer retained in the browser session afterward.
- AtlasOAStandardized sign-in responses so they no longer reveal whether a particular username exists, with consistent protection across all sign-in screens.
- AtlasOAStrengthened sign-in rate limiting and account lockout so repeated failed attempts are counted reliably and limited per account as well as per source.
- AtlasOAAutomatically re-secures stored email (SMTP) passwords in protected storage during upgrade.
- AtlasOAAdded optional signed-update enforcement so a deployment can require authenticated update packages, plus a clear notice when the application is reachable over the network without encrypted transport.
- AtlasOAAdditional input and output hardening across request validation, the data-import workflow, and report file generation.
Compatibility
- AtlasOAAll changes are backward compatible. Existing data, license keys, and API keys continue to work without manual steps.
- AtlasOANo customer action is required after updating, aside from optionally enabling signed-update enforcement.
v0.9.3 (Atlas K-12 Security and Reliability)
2026-06-09
PATCH
Atlas K-12
Security and privacy
- Atlas K-12Strengthened school and district boundaries across account management, dashboards, group tools, data imports, survey insights, care teams, and review queues so staff only see and act on records within their authorized school or district.
- Atlas K-12Tightened account-management controls for creating, editing, and deactivating staff accounts, including stronger safeguards around elevated and special-purpose roles.
- Atlas K-12Hardened single sign-on so sign-in identity checks more consistently restrict access to approved organizations and domains.
- Atlas K-12Improved student information system integrations with stricter server verification, safer file handling, protected credential storage, and corrected setup screens for reliable credential entry and saving.
- Atlas K-12Protected exported reports by sanitizing spreadsheet and CSV output so stored text is not interpreted as active content when opened.
- Atlas K-12Updated Compass privacy controls around answer handling, caching, and review workflows so district information stays separated and corrected content refreshes appropriately.
- Atlas K-12Hardened family and student survey links with stronger single-use and expiration handling.
- Atlas K-12Strengthened web response and deployment safeguards with additional browser protections, transport-security settings, input and output escaping, installer signing, and network-configuration checks.
Reliability and accuracy
- Atlas K-12Restored dashboards and group views for all staff roles by correcting a defect that could affect non-district administrator accounts.
- Atlas K-12Improved attendance and chronic-absenteeism reporting by correcting calculation and duplicate-record handling so at-risk students are surfaced more accurately.
- Atlas K-12Improved alert and email reliability so risk-alert notifications and alert-tier handling reach the right staff more consistently.
- Atlas K-12Made intervention progress tracking and survey submission more resilient when records include incomplete or out-of-range data.
- Atlas K-12Improved credential diagnostics so configuration issues are reported clearly instead of silently continuing.
Compatibility
- Atlas K-12Student-data privacy was the central focus. The update strengthens FERPA-aligned boundaries while preserving existing data and workflows.
- Atlas K-12No customer action is required after updating.
v0.9.2 (AtlasOA Security and Hardening)
2026-06-09
PATCH
AtlasOA
Security and hardening
- AtlasOATightened permission enforcement across administrative tools, data-import actions, and record-deletion workflows so each action follows the account's assigned role and permissions.
- AtlasOAStrengthened protection for stored API access keys. Keys are now kept in a protected, non-reversible form, and existing keys continue to work while upgrading automatically.
- AtlasOAImproved handling for credential and secret fields so sensitive values stay hidden from built-in data tools and cannot be edited through general-purpose screens.
- AtlasOAHardened backup management with stricter file-name validation and administrator-only backup actions.
- AtlasOAProtected exported reports by sanitizing spreadsheet and CSV output so imported text is not interpreted as active content when opened.
- AtlasOAImproved encrypted transport handling. Optional HTTPS enforcement now applies consistently, and offsite backup transfers plus external system integrations use stricter certificate and host verification by default.
- AtlasOAAdded safer software-update checks so update packages are verified for integrity before they are applied.
- AtlasOAReduced service privileges and improved install behavior by using a lower-privilege service account, restricting application-data access, and reporting installation status more accurately.
- AtlasOAImproved first-run account security. New installations now require the default administrator password to be changed before use, and repeated failed sign-in attempts are limited per account.
- AtlasOAHardened web responses with tighter content-security and session-cookie settings, plus sign-in requirements for several internal status endpoints.
- AtlasOAExpanded input and output hardening with additional escaping and validation across user-facing screens and reports.
- AtlasOAImproved dependency and build hygiene by pinning dependencies to known-good versions and removing internal-only assets from the distributed package.
Compatibility
- AtlasOABackward compatible update. Existing data, license keys, and API keys continue to work without manual steps.
- AtlasOANo customer action is required after updating, aside from setting a new administrator password on brand-new installations.
v0.9.1 (Self-Hosted Credential Vaults)
2026-06-06
PATCH
Shared
AtlasOA
Atlas K-12
What's new
- SharedAdded Infisical-backed secret storage support for on-prem school-server installs where the vault is hosted by the customer, district, or institution.
- AtlasOAJenzabar, Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle credentials can now be stored in a local self-hosted Infisical instance instead of the application config file when deployments enable Infisical mode.
- AtlasOASMTP passwords, SFTP backup passwords, and S3-compatible backup secret keys now use the same credential backend, keeping operational service secrets behind the same vault boundary.
- AtlasOASaved credential references are no longer echoed into password fields. Leaving a credential field blank keeps the existing saved secret, while entering a new value rotates it through the active backend.
- Atlas K-12SIS integration credentials can now be stored in a local self-hosted Infisical instance instead of the application database when deployments enable Infisical mode.
- Atlas K-12SQLite stores only safe credential references when Infisical is configured, reducing plaintext exposure for API keys, SIS client secrets, SFTP passwords, tokens, and other integration credentials.
- SharedExisting encrypted ENC: credentials remain compatible. Local encrypted Fernet storage stays available by default for development and local installs, while new or rotated credentials can use INFISICAL: references in server deployments.
- SharedAdded deployment documentation for Infisical configuration so IT teams can choose the credential backend that matches their server environment.
Validation
- Atlas K-12109 focused checks passed: 13 credential/SIS tests, 22 security and migration tests, 15 packaging/installer tests, 15 SIS integration/importer tests, and 44 auth/security tests.
- Atlas K-12Runtime smoke confirmed /login returned 200.
- AtlasOAFocused credential-vault tests passed for local Fernet fallback, Infisical reference creation, secret resolution, reference reuse on rotation, and connector-side decrypt.
- AtlasOASyntax checks passed across the credential store, LMS/SIS adapters, SMTP mailer, offsite backup module, and main Flask app.
